The Castle Atlas is an opinionated, image-rich tier list of the most striking castles, fortresses and châteaux across Europe — ranked by how exciting a visit would be, browsable by country, and plotted on an interactive map.
Every castle has a hand-picked photo gallery, a concise description written from its origin-country-language Wikipedia article, its location, and links to the official site and Wikipedia where they exist.
Data comes from Wikidata and Wikipedia; photographs are sourced from Wikimedia Commons under their respective licences, credited to their photographers. The rankings are personal opinion, not a measure of historical or military importance — rearrange them however you see fit.
The Castle Atlas is built by Art Merenfeld.
