Rosenborg Castle
Rosenborg Castle stands in Kongens Have, Copenhagen's oldest royal park, an elegant Dutch Renaissance structure built by King Christian IV between 1606 and 1624. What began as a modest country summerhouse grew through four construction phases into the king's favorite residence; he commanded to be carried there on his deathbed so he could end his days in the palace he loved.
After around 1710 it was repurposed as a royal treasury and museum, opening to the public in 1838. It remains open to visitors and holds the Danish Crown Jewels and regalia among its royal collections.
