Pidhirtsi Castle
Pidhirtsi Castle is a late Renaissance palace-fortress about 80 km east of Lviv, Ukraine, built 1635–1640 for Grand Crown Hetman Stanisław Koniecpolski of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Designed by Guillaume Le Vasseur de Beauplan and Andrea dell'Aqua in the palazzo in fortezza style, the originally two-story structure is ringed by artillery bastions and once featured Italian-style parterre gardens and richly decorated interiors. King John III Sobieski visited when his son Jakub owned the estate from 1682. A fire in February 1956 burned for three weeks, causing severe damage to the structure.
Managed since 1997 by the Lviv National Art Gallery, the castle functions as a museum with ongoing restoration.
