Cesky Krumlov Castle
Český Krumlov Castle crowns a rocky spur above a tight bend of the Vltava in southern Bohemia. Founded in 1253 by the Vítkovci family, it is the second-largest castle complex in the Czech Republic. Gothic origins were overlaid with Renaissance details under the Rosenberg family and Baroque additions under the Eggenberg and Schwarzenberg dynasties.
A five-story Cloak Bridge spanning the carved moat dates to 1764. The Baroque theatre of 1767, with original scenery and stage machinery surviving, is among the best-preserved in the world. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992, it is open as a museum and cultural venue.
